Fray Garcia de San Francisco, situated in downtown's Pioneer Plaza, is now surrounded by a new and beautiful upgraded setting.Fray Garcia was founder of the first mission in El Paso del Norte in 1659-the Mision of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe. It is to this day an active mission in the heart of downtown Juarez, Mexico. Fray Garcia introduced farming and the mission grape to the region. Created by sculptors John Houser and his son Ethan Houser, the artists placed at the feet of the 14 foot bronze monument a basket of grapes-each grape the size of a goose egg!
